taxes on solar panels

There will be no new taxes on solar panels, confirmed Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial during a Senate briefing on the upcoming budget 2025-26.

Addressing the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, Chairman Langrial stated that no decision has been made to impose additional taxes on the import of solar panels, nor is there any proposal to increase the current tax rate.

This clarification comes amid widespread public concern over possible price hikes on solar energy systems, as the country shifts toward sustainable energy.

Langrial emphasized the government’s commitment to clean energy, adding that such steps are crucial for reducing energy costs and promoting solar adoption across Pakistan.

In the same session, the FBR chief announced a 25 percent income tax exemption for teachers, beginning next fiscal year. For the current year, teachers will either receive a refund or an adjustment under this relief policy.

He further shared that Pakistan is in discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide tax relief to the salaried class and other vulnerable sectors.

Additionally, the Senate Committee approved the second income tax amendment bill, officially removing additional income tax burdens on teachers and leakers.

Langrial also clarified that the extraordinary profit tax applies only to banks and not to other companies or sectors.
