Authorities denounce viral video falsely linking death to polio vaccine

Polio vaccine misinformation video

A misleading video circulating on social media has falsely linked a child’s death to the polio vaccine, prompting strong clarification from authorities amid the third nationwide polio campaign of 2025.

According to the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Sindh, the incident shown in the video has been thoroughly investigated by local officials, who confirmed that the polio vaccine was not responsible for the child’s death.

Health authorities have emphasized that the oral polio vaccine (OPV) is proven to be safe and effective, having prevented over 16 million paralysis cases globally. Over the last decade, more than 10 billion doses have been administered to nearly three billion children worldwide, contributing to a 99% drop in global polio cases.

Officials warn that false content of this kind fuels public fear, leads to vaccine refusals, and can even endanger the safety of frontline health workers and children.
