A severe heatwave continues to affect Sindh, with 588 heatstroke cases reported till May 24, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
According to data provided by the authorities, no human deaths have occurred due to heatstroke, while 49 livestock have been killed, mostly goats and a few cows.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is causing temperatures to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal.
Authorities have advised that Children, elderly people, and outdoor workers are urged to stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure during the daytime. Farmers have also been told to adjust work schedules and protect their animals.
Shaheed Benazirabad is the most affected district, reporting 490 cases. Other districts include Khairpur (75), Tando Allahyar (11), and Hyderabad (8).
In the last 48 hours alone, 47 new heatstroke cases have emerged, mostly from Shaheed Benazirabad (41 cases) and Khairpur (5 cases).
To address the crisis, 544 government-run heatstroke camps have been set up across Sindh, with the highest number (163) in Hyderabad Division, followed by Shaheed Benazirabad (122) and Mirpurkhas (107).
Officials have urged all Deputy Commissioners and local bodies to strictly enforce heatwave safety rules and take more action to prevent health risks.
