Sindh Assembly passed a resolution urging the federal government to allocate funds for the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway in the upcoming fiscal budget.
The resolution, presented by PPP MPA Asif Musa, stated that the project is not only vital for Sindh but also for the entire country.
He emphasized that budgetary provision for the long-delayed motorway should be ensured in the 2025 federal budget.
Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi supported the resolution, stating that Karachi’s motorway itself lacks proper standards.
On a lighter note, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Muhammad Farooq criticized the rejection of his earlier resolution on economic austerity, quipping, “I wish I had come wearing a tie and coat, maybe my resolution would have passed too.”
The 306-kilometre Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway is considered a key missing link in the national motorway network, and lawmakers have long pressed Islamabad to expedite its construction.
Sindh Assembly rejects austerity resolution presented by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Muhammad Farooq, despite growing concern over Pakistan’s economic crisis.
Farooq urged lawmakers to cut unnecessary government spending and promote simplicity, starting with the Sindh government itself. He stressed that austerity was essential given the country and province’s dire economic conditions.
Parliamentary Secretary Heer Soho opposed the resolution, claiming austerity was already in effect. “The Chief Minister now serves tea with only two biscuits,” she remarked, drawing reactions from across the chamber.
