A disabled man on a wheelchair was crushed to death by a speeding dumper while crossing the road near Steel Mill Mor in Karachi.
SSP Traffic Shaukat Khatian confirmed that the tragic incident occurred as the man attempted to cross the road when the dumper ran over him.
The driver tried to flee the scene, but citizens and traffic officials chased him down and blocked his escape using their vehicles.
Witnesses, enraged by the horrific scene, smashed the dumper’s windows and physically assaulted the driver before handing him over to the police.
The driver is now in custody, according to SSP Khatian.
This is the latest in a string of dumper-related accidents in Karachi.
Just two days ago, a motorcyclist was killed by a dumper near Power House Chowrangi, North Karachi, during the early morning hours. The driver in that case fled with the vehicle before police could intervene.
In another incident earlier in April at the same location, a motorcyclist was injured by a dumper.
The frustration of the public led to nine trucks being set on fire by angry residents after the driver crushed an empty motorcycle during an altercation.
