How to prevent SIM blockage due to expired CNIC

SIM block expired CNIC

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that SIMs registered on expired CNICs will be blocked without notice. Here’s how to keep your mobile number active:

SIMs associated with CNICs that expired before 2017 and haven’t been renewed will be blocked in phases; however, in order to continue using the mobile service, CNIC renewal is required.

PTA is also targeting SIMs linked to cancelled CNICs and deceased individuals, aimed at controlling fraud, scams, and criminal mobile usage nationwide.

NADRA recommends that citizens check the status of their CNICs to avoid sudden disconnection of SIM cards.

If your CNIC has expired, you may face problems with your SIM, bank accounts, government services, or international travel.

In the case of deceased persons, their family members can transfer SIM ownership by providing death certificates and legal identity verification.

Always make sure your CNIC is valid. An expired ID not only disconnects your SIM but also blocks you from important national services and benefits.

For support, citizens can contact NADRA through its website www.nadra.gov.pk, helpline 051-111-786-100, or dial 1777 from a mobile phone.

How to renew CNIC:

To check or renew, visit your nearest NADRA office or use the Pak ID mobile app.

If your CNIC is expired, simply go to Pak ID app.

  1. Select Renewal: Choose the option for “Renewal of CNIC” from the app’s menu.
  2. Data Acquisition: The app will guide you through interactive data acquisition, including capturing your ICAO-based photograph, fingerprints, and digital signature.
  3. Document Upload: Upload any required documents, either through your mobile camera or by uploading files.
  4. Verification and Payment: Verify your application and make the necessary payment online.
  5. Application Status: Track the status of your renewal application through the app’s inbox.

The app allows users to apply for renewal from home, upload documents, and receive an updated CNIC at their address without visiting the office.
