As part of the federal government’s “Udaan Pakistan” digital initiative, NADRA has begun deploying digital birth and death notification tools in healthcare facilities nationwide.
Working with provincial governments, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) aims to modernize the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system through real-time, accurate reporting of vital events at the point of occurrence.
These digital tools are now being installed at hospitals and clinics to ensure instant registration of births and deaths, a move expected to boost the government’s digital ID and digital economy plans.
The data will also support reforms under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP) – a World Bank-backed initiative.
Agreements to implement the system are being signed across the country.
In Karachi, the Sindh government formalized its partnership with NADRA in a ceremony attended by Minister Saeed Ghani. The Secretaries of Health and Local Government signed the pact alongside NADRA’s Karachi Director General.
A similar agreement was earlier signed in Quetta between NADRA and the Balochistan government. Upcoming signings are planned with Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Officials say this transition to digital registration will reduce errors, improve service delivery, and support policy-making through more reliable population data.
The system also promotes technology-driven governance under the national vision of a digitally connected Pakistan.
