UK ends automatic citizenship for immigrants

UK immigration reform

The UK government is set to announce its immigration system, ending what officials now call a “failed experiment” in open borders as net migration hits one million annually.

The Prime Minister will unveil the new Immigration White Paper, stating that UK residency is a privilege, not an automatic right. Future migrants must show clear economic and social contributions to stay long-term.

Under the reforms, permanent settlement after five years will be scrapped. Most migrants will need to stay ten years before applying for settlement, unless they can prove high-level benefits to the UK economy.

A new merit-based system will speed up settlement for highly skilled workers in vital areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), engineering, and healthcare. The aim is to cut dependence on foreign labor and focus on British job creation.

The policy will also raise English language standards for all migrants, including adult dependents, to help improve integration and reduce abuse of the system.

The government says the current system has eroded public trust and hurt UK workers. The Prime Minister will push a “common-sense” plan focused on skills, security, and social cohesion.

The Home Secretary will present the full bill in Parliament, which includes stricter enforcement. Over 24,000 unauthorized residents have been deported since the last election, including a 16 percent rise in foreign criminal removals.
