The Sindh Boys Scouts Association has issued a detailed guide on how citizens can prepare and stay safe during wartime emergencies as tensions escalate between India and Pakistan.
The emergency response plan focuses on individual, community, and institutional roles during natural disasters, accidents, or acts of terrorism.
Siren
When a siren sounds during wartime, it means danger may be near. If you hear it, immediately move to a safe place. A short, repeated siren means take shelter. A long, continuous siren signals the end of danger.
Blackout
In a wartime blackout, turn off all outdoor lights including house, shop, or street lights. Cover all windows with dark paper or curtains to stop light from escaping. Use only a mobile or torchlight inside and away from windows.
Arrange Food, Water, Medicine and Other Things
In emergencies, banks, pharmacies and shops may close. This can cause a shortage of food, cash and medicines. Store dry, long-lasting food like canned items, chocolate and dry fruits. Keep enough drinking water for at least 72 hours. Also, prepare a first aid kit, extra gas cylinder for cooking, and a small indoor shelter like a basement.
Obtaining Information
Avoid rumors and fake news during emergencies. Always get updates from government channels or reliable human rights organizations. Follow any instructions from official emergency centers. Keep emergency numbers like police, ambulance and rescue teams saved for quick access.
During Shelling
Stay away from windows and doors. Lie flat on the ground and crawl to safety. If you’re in a vehicle, exit quickly and take cover. In open areas, lie on your stomach and shield your head with your arms.
Cooperation with Institutions
Support the work of the army, police, rescue teams, health services and scouts. Let ambulances pass first. Help the wounded and donate blood if possible.
Transportation
Avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.
Order in Schools, Mosques, Offices
Schools should train students for emergency responses. Mosques and offices can act as shelters. Know how to evacuate buildings quickly and safely.
