Karachi may get relief in heatwave as PMD forecasts strong winds, light rain

Karachi wind forecast

Offering a hint of relief from the scorching heat, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast strong winds in Karachi.

According to the Met Office, winds with speeds up to 30 km/h are expected to blow across the city throughout the day. The humidity level currently stands at 58%, making the weather sticky and uncomfortable.

However, cloudy skies are likely tomorrow, and light rain or drizzle is expected in some areas, providing temporary relief.

This forecast follows an unusually hot and dry April, which was the seventh driest and second hottest across Pakistan in the past six and a half decades.

The national average temperature in April hit 27.91°C, significantly higher than the long-term average of 24.54°C. Even more alarming was the daytime high of 36.40°C, which exceeded the usual maximum by 4.66°C.

Rainfall was 59 percent below normal, raising concerns about climate change impacts on agriculture, water supplies, and public health as summer intensifies. Experts warn that extreme temperatures and dry spells could become more frequent.

Meanwhile, the PMD has predicted thunderstorms, winds, and isolated hailstorms in upper and central Pakistan from May 1 to May 4, with PDMA Punjab issuing alerts for Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and other cities.

These regions are likely to experience heavy rains and thunderstorm-related activity through the weekend.
