Water supply to several parts of Karachi will be suspended after an 84-inch pipeline burst near the Staff Colony of the University of Karachi.
According to the officials, water flooded the homes of university teachers, damaging furniture and household items. Many affected families have started relocating temporarily.
A spokesperson for the Water Corporation confirmed that the “valve operation” was halted after the line burst, and technical teams arrived to inspect the damage.
To begin repair work, authorities have reduced water pressure in the affected area, meanwhile, full repair work will commence once the water flow is manageable.
“The repair process will take about 96 hours to complete,” the spokesperson said. During this time, residents of various areas will face a partial water supply suspension.
According to the Water Corporation, the areas expected to be affected the most include Jamshed Town, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Korangi, and Landhi.
Authorities urged residents to store water and use it carefully during the repair period, warning that the normal supply may take time to restore.
Currently, Karachi receives a daily supply of 650 million gallons of water, however, due to the major pipeline damage several areas might get a shortage of water until the repair is finished.
The public is requested to avoid water wastage and cooperate with the authorities during this temporary service interruption.
Once the 84-inch pipeline is restored, water delivery to many low-pressure areas is expected to improve significantly.
