586 unverified pensioners found in KDA verification drive

KDA pension verification drive

A three-month KDA pension verification drive found 586 unverified pensioners receiving pensions without confirmation of their eligibility.

As per the details, the verification, conducted from October to December 2024, aimed to check the authenticity of all 4,086 Karachi Development Authority (KDA) pensioners.

The spokesman of Sindh’s Local Government Minister stated that these unverified individuals were removed from the pension payroll starting January 1, 2025.

The issue surfaced after media reports highlighted irregular payments discussed during a recent meeting of the Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The spokesman clarified that the media reports had misrepresented the PAC’s findings and actions regarding KDA’s Director of Finance.

It was noted that during the PAC meeting, KDA’s Finance Director responded factually to audit questions about pension disbursements.

The Sindh Local Government Minister had initiated the verification to prevent financial losses due to incorrect or outdated pension records.

An ongoing investigation aims to determine whether the 586 cases involved fraudulent activity or administrative lapses in the KDA pension system.

The spokesman emphasized that both banks and the KDA conduct routine checks, including biometric verifications and Life/No-Marriage Certificate submissions every six months.

These procedures are in place to verify the living status of pensioners and widows of former employees to ensure accurate disbursement.

Despite news reports, PAC has not issued any official letter recommending action against the KDA Finance Director, the spokesman confirmed.

The verified facts will also be officially communicated to the KDA to ensure transparency and accountability within the department.
