In a major step toward green development, the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has donated 5,000 trees for plantation along the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway.
The initiative aims to improve the environment and promote sustainable urban growth.
The plantation handover ceremony was held in Karachi and was attended by Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, and several key industrialists and city officials.
Officials from KATI included President Junaid Naqi, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, and Senior Vice President Ijaz Sheikh, along with other influential members of the business community.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Wahab said the Karachi administration is working to allocate special funds for industrial development in the upcoming budget.
He added that the second phase of the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway will be completed by April 30, and the third phase is expected by December 2025.
The mayor also shared progress on other infrastructure projects like the Jam Sadiq Flyover, due by August 14, and the Korangi Crossing Bridge, which is set to open by August 30.
Mayor Wahab emphasized that efforts are underway to make the expressway signal-free, reducing traffic jams and improving travel flow across the city.

Commissioner Naqvi praised KATI’s plantation effort and said it sets a strong example for sustainable urban planning. He said such contributions benefit both the environment and community.
He also confirmed a detailed PC-1 plan has been prepared for the Korangi Industrial Zone uplift, with work expected to start by June or July.
KATI President Junaid Naqi said no development is truly sustainable without a better environment, calling the tree donation a step toward a greener Karachi.
