Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain has announced that donkey meat exports to China from Gwadar will help boost Pakistan’s trade performance.
He shared the update after meeting a Chinese delegation headed by Zaho Fei, Vice President of China’s Donkey Industry.
The two sides discussed setting up commercial donkey breeding and meat processing units in Gwadar’s Export Processing Zone.
Minister Hussain said these facilities will include slaughterhouses and dedicated export units, creating jobs and improving trade flow.
China sees Pakistan’s environment as suitable for donkey breeding due to its climate and land availability, the Chinese delegation told officials.

The minister noted that while progress is expected, the protection of Pakistan’s local donkey breeds is a top priority.
“All farms will be approved only after meeting legal and environmental regulations,” he added, reassuring that local livestock would not be affected.
Hussain further stressed that local animal protection rules and breed preservation plans would be enforced in the plan.
He said the project will open new doors for meat exports, especially to China, which has a growing demand for donkey by-products in medicine and cosmetics.
Hussain expressed hope that stronger trade ties between Pakistan and China would develop through such niche exports.
He said the venture would benefit farmers, provide jobs, and increase foreign exchange earnings for the country.
