CM Sindh orders crackdown on stolen mobile sales

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has issued clear directives to maintain a proper record of every new and used mobile phone bought and sold in markets across the province.

The move is part of a broader strategy to improve law and order and curb the growing black market of stolen phones.

Presiding over a high-level meeting in Karachi on Monday to review the province’s law and order situation, CM Murad stressed the need for transparency in mobile phone transactions.

“Karachi is the country’s largest mobile market,” he said, “and it is vital that every transaction – whether new or used – is recorded properly at the shop level.”

He instructed the police and relevant authorities to send a clear message to traders that undocumented business will not be tolerated.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Ministers Sharjeel Memon and Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, along with IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and other senior officials.

The IG informed the gathering that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for mobile phone trade have already been finalised in collaboration with the Mobile Markets Association.

In addition to mobile phone sales, the Chief Minister directed a crackdown on illegal trade in spare parts of stolen vehicles and motorcycles.

The IG Sindh reported that 234 scrap dealers involved in trading stolen auto parts have already been arrested in recent operations.

CM Murad also stressed that strengthening policing in the Larkana and Sukkur divisions to address security challenges in upper Sindh, especially in areas prone to kidnapping and organized crime.

He reiterated that improving law and order across the province remains a top priority and that enforcement measures must be visible and effective.

The initiative is part of the Sindh government’s wider push to regulate informal markets, enhance urban security, and crack down on organized criminal networks operating under the guise of legitimate businesses.
