US blacklists 80 companies, including 19 from Pakistan

US blacklists 80 companies

The United States has placed 80 companies from Pakistan, China, Iran, the UAE, and South Africa on its export blacklist, limiting their access to American products and technology due to national security concerns.

According to foreign media, the list includes over 50 Chinese firms, along with 19 from Pakistan and four from the UAE and Iran. Among them are six subsidiaries of China’s cloud computing giant, Insper Group.

The US Department of Commerce stated that these companies were aiding China’s military in developing supercomputers, artificial intelligence, and hypersonic weapons.

The move is part of Washington’s broader strategy to limit Beijing’s progress in high-performance computing and quantum technology.

“We will not allow our technology to be misused by rivals to strengthen their military,” said US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

The US is also imposing restrictions on Iran to prevent its acquisition of drones and missile technology.

Authorities say these measures aim to curb unsafe nuclear activities and limit Tehran’s defense capabilities.

China has strongly condemned the decision, calling it an attempt to politicize trade and technology.

A spokesperson from the Chinese embassy urged the US to stop using security concerns as a justification for economic restrictions.

The companies on the blacklist now require special licenses to access American technology, which are rarely granted.

Industry experts warn that this move could further strain US-China relations and impact global supply chains, particularly in the tech sector.

The US Department of Commerce maintains that national security remains a top priority, and it will continue monitoring foreign firms for potential threats.
