A new parking facility with space for 500 vehicles in Saddar will be operational after Eid, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced during his visit to Empress Market.

Wahab stated that longstanding parking issues in Saddar were being addressed, with paver work completed and the facility set to open soon.

He also inspected restoration efforts at the historic Empress Market, emphasizing infrastructure improvements while preserving its heritage.

The mayor revealed that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had requested railway land from the Sindh governor to develop parking solutions for congested areas like I.I. Chundrigar Road.

“If we get the railway land, we can solve parking issues on II Chundrigar Road and nearby areas,” he added.

Additional parking spaces, including one near Bolton Market, are also in progress.

To further ease traffic congestion, Wahab announced the construction of a new bridge at Quaidabad Murghi Khana after Eid, along with the opening of another bridge near Jam Sadiq Bridge.

He assured that the delayed Meena Bazaar underpass project would be completed within the year.

Wahab stressed that Karachi’s main challenge was not a lack of resources but a lack of intent, urging all stakeholders to collaborate for the city’s development.

He also criticized the federal government for neglecting motorway projects in Sindh, stating that the absence of motorways forces heavy dumpers onto city roads, causing congestion and safety risks.

“Dumpers should be banned from city roads, but without motorways, they continue to roam freely,” he added.
