The federal cabinet has approved an increase of up to 188 percent in the salaries of ministers, ministers of state, and advisers, as reported by Geo News.
The news reports highlighted that the monthly salary of federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers has been raised to Rs 519,000, compared to Rs 200,000 for ministers and Rs 180,000 for ministers of state previously.
The salary of federal ministers has increased by 159 percent, while ministers of state and advisers have received a 188 percent hike.
This decision follows the recently passed Members of Parliament Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill 2025, which raised parliamentarians’ salaries from Rs 218,000 to Rs 519,000, aligning them with federal secretaries’ pay. The bill had support from all major parties, including PPP, PTI, and PML-N.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that the government is not considering salary or pension increases for federal employees in the upcoming budget.
However, adjustments to housing and hiring allowances are under review.
Last month, government employees protested outside Parliament House, demanding salary increases and pension protection amid rising inflation.
