Pakistan stuns New Zealand as Nawaz blows T20I records

Pak vs Nz Nawaz record

The third T20I match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Auckland made history as Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback in the series, setting multiple new records along the way.

After two consecutive ducks in his first two innings, young opening batter Hassan Nawaz stole the show in the third international match by smashing a century in just 44 balls, becoming the fastest Pakistani to reach a T20 International century.

He surpassed the previous record held by Babar Azam, who had achieved the milestone in 49 balls.

Hassan’s blistering knock also made him the third-fastest batsman in the world to score a T20I century, trailing behind England’s Liam Livingstone (42 balls) and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (43 balls).

Additionally, he joined India’s Deepak Hooda as the second-fastest batsman to score a century in the fewest career innings, reaching the milestone in just his third innings.

Only Richard Levi (South Africa), Evin Lewis (West Indies), and Abhishek Sharma (India) have achieved a century in fewer innings, doing so in their second T20I.

At just 22 years and 212 days old, Hassan Nawaz became the seventh-youngest player to score a T20I century. His explosive batting also helped Pakistan break its record for the most Powerplay runs in T20Is, scoring 75/1 in the first six overs dominated the innings, reaching 100 runs in just 8.1 overs – its fastest 100 in T20Is.

Chasing a target of 205 runs, Pakistan completed the chase in just 16 overs, setting a world record for the quickest successful run chase of 200+ runs in T20 Internationals.

Shaheen Shah Afridi also made history in the match, taking a wicket in the first over once again. With this, he extended his record as the bowler with the most first-over wickets in T20 Internationals, reaching a total of 18.
