Karachi traffic authorities have made helmets mandatory for motorcycle riders on three major roads to curb rising fatal accidents.
According to DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, motorcyclists will not be allowed to enter Metropole to Clifton Bridge, PIDC to Saudi Consulate, and Shahrah-e-Faisal without helmets.
“Riders without helmets will be turned back. We are making these roads model roads,” he stated.
Initially, an awareness campaign will be conducted during Ramadan to educate riders on helmet safety. However, strict enforcement will begin after Ramadan, with violators facing heavy fines.

To strengthen implementation, authorities will introduce a modern locking system to all section officers. Riders will only be able to unlock their bikes after showing their helmets.
Explaining the system, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said that wherever a motorcycle is parked, a modern lock will be installed. The rider will only be allowed to unlock the motorcycle after wearing a helmet.
Each section officer will be provided with 50 locks to enforce this system.
The initiative aims to improve road safety and reduce motorcycle-related fatalities in Karachi.
