Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of Champions Trophy 2025

Jasprit Bumrah

India suffered a major setback as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to an ongoing back injury, as confirmed by the BCCI.

Bumrah, who sustained the injury during the Sydney Test in January, has yet to recover fully. The setback had already ruled him out of the white-ball series against England.

While his latest scans in Bengaluru did not indicate any serious issues, he is reportedly not ready to resume bowling, as reported by Cricinfo.

The report further revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) medical team at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru continues to monitor Bumrah’s progress, however, there is no confirmed timeline for his return.

It is worth mentioning here that this marks the second ICC tournament Bumrah will miss due to injury.

He was also sidelined from the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia due to a similar back injury, which later required surgery.

The ICC had set February 11 as the deadline for all eight teams to finalize their 15-member squads. Any changes post-deadline require approval from the tournament’s technical committee.

Harshit Rana is likely to replace Bumrah in India’s Champions Trophy squad.
