College official flees with Rs 900,000 examination fees in Karachi

A superintendent at a government college in Karachi has fled after embezzling over Rs 900,000 in examination fees collected from students, officials confirmed.

As per media reports, the money was taken from 81 female students at the Government Degree College for Women in Nazimabad, who had paid a total of Rs 910,200 as exam fees.

The report highlighted that the college’s principal, Shehla Bashir, filed a formal complaint with Rizvia police station, alleging that the official misappropriated the funds instead of depositing them into the bank.

Quoting the FIR, the media reports suggested that the suspect has not been seen at the college since January 25, and he personally collected the fees without issuing the required vouchers or depositing the funds.

The police have launched an investigation and are working to arrest the superintendent.

Meanwhile, students are facing delays with their exam admit cards.

However, the affected students, who are set to take their exams on Saturday, expressed frustration as they had not received their admit cards on time.

The college dean explained that they had submitted all required documents to the board management late last night, and most admit cards have been delivered, with the rest expected to be distributed later today.

The principal clarified that the students had paid extra money to the superintendent without receiving proper receipts, which added to the confusion.
