Gold reserves worth billions found in Attock region, claims Hassan Murad

Gold reserves worth billions of dollars have been discovered in the Indus River near Attock in Punjab, as claimed by the ex-caretaker minister for minerals.

Former Punjab Caretaker Minister for Minerals, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, made the claim on social media, stating that the reserves stretch across a 32-kilometer-long strip in Attock.

Murad further stated that the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) confirmed the discovery after collecting samples from 127 locations. The estimated reserves of 2.8 million tola are valued at Rs 800 billion or approximately $2.87 billion.

Murad had previously claimed in February 2024 that the Indus River in Attock contained significant gold reserves.

He mentioned that a report by the Geological Survey of Pakistan had been completed, identifying nine blocks of placer gold that would soon be auctioned.
