Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has announced a nationwide protest over the lack of relief in electricity tariffs.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Rehman criticized the government’s failure to reduce power prices despite promises made over the past six months.
He also highlighted the government’s failure to address worsening economic conditions.
“The prime minister keeps announcing good news about the stock market, but why aren’t commodity prices falling?” Rehman questioned, also pointing out the continued high cost of the US dollar.
The JI leader condemned the recent pay hikes for parliamentarians and the rise in administrative expenses, which have increased by 23 percent and announced a nationwide protest starting from January 17, 2025.
He further criticized the lavish spending on luxury vehicles for officials, while power tariffs remain high.
Rehman stressed that the government has failed to deliver on promises of cheaper electricity.
