The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Karachi has suspended the Accountant at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari for accused of failing to provide audit records and is also allegedly involved in a harassment case.
The PAC meeting, chaired by Nisar Khuhro, was attended by committee members Qasim Soomro, Khurram Soomro, Makhdoom Fakhar-uz-Zaman, and the Interim Vice-Chancellor of Lyari University, Amjad Siraj Memon.
During the meeting, the university administration failed to present the required audit records.
A three-member committee, led by Additional Secretary of the Universities and Boards Department, Sohail Anwar Baloch, had earlier declared the accountant, Abdul Rashid Mallah, involved in the harassment incident.
However, Mallah has reportedly ignored the inquiry committee’s notices and has not responded to the show cause notice.
Mallah’s role as Deputy Director of Finance has been withdrawn, and he is now under investigation for the harassment claims.
PAC Chairman Nisar Khuhro criticized Mallah’s negligence in providing the audit records and ordered his suspension.
The committee also directed the Additional IG Karachi and the Karachi Police Chief to investigate the harassment case further.
VC Amjad Siraj Memon clarified that the university’s new Deputy Director of Finance is still in the process of gathering the necessary audit records.
