Following the Sindh High Court (SHC) directives, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) resumed the demolition of illegal constructions in Mujahid Colony, near Karachi’s Nazimabad area.
The KDA’s Anti-Enforcement Cell, led by its Additional Director, demolished the remaining structures in Mujahid Colony.
A high-rise building was completely taken down, but progress remains slow due to incomplete evacuation by the district administration.
Despite heavy police deployment, KDA staff encountered resistance from residents and victims during the operation.
Residents and victims protested against the demolitions, demanding solutions and compensation.
It is pertinent to mention here that petitions was filed from residents challenging the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in the Sindh High Court (SHC).
The court in its directives stressed that the demolition should be done strictly according to the law, especially concerning any structures on the 150-foot-wide road shown in the colony’s master plan.
The petitioners argued that the KDA was demolishing their legal homes under the guise of an anti-encroachment operation, despite their possession of valid documents issued by government land departments.
Their lawyer, Syed Haider Imam Rizvi, pointed out that the petitioners’ houses were built in line with the layout plans of the Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority (SKAA) and that no encroachment had occurred.
Rizvi also stated that the Nazir’s report confirmed that the 150-foot-wide road did not affect the petitioners’ houses. He requested the court to declare that the 78 plots in question fall under SKAA’s jurisdiction, not KDA’s.
After hearing both sides, the court agreed that some constructions had been illegally raised and were not part of the approved master plan.
The court ordered the KDA to demolish any such illegal constructions, particularly those on the 150-foot-wide road, and to follow legal procedures.
The petitions from the residents were disposed of with the court’s directives.
