Sindh has reported a surge in Child Labour with Qambar Shahdadkot recording the highest rate at 30.8 percent of kids are forced to work in the district.
A recent report from the School Education Department has revealed a concerning rise in child labor in Sindh, highlighting the growing issue of children being forced to work in various districts of the province.
According to the media reports, Karachi has the lowest child labor rate in Sindh, at just 2.38 percent, however, other districts are facing significantly higher rates, such as Tharparkar at 29 percent, Shikarpur at 20.2 percent, and Tando Muhammad Khan at 20.3 percent.
The report also mentions other districts with troubling statistics, including Hyderabad at 4.5 percent, Sukkur at 8.6 percent, and Larkana at 7.6 percent.
Additional figures show Umerkot at 21 percent, Sanghar at 25.7 percent, and Khairpur at 9 percent, reflecting the widespread nature of the issue across Sindh.
In January 2024, the former Caretaker Education Minister, Jam Madad Ali Sindhi, expressed deep concerns about the growing number of out-of-school children in Pakistan, now at 25 million.
He encouraged parents to enroll their children in school to combat the rising educational crisis.
Sindhi also emphasized the importance of improving school conditions, sharing an experience where he observed girls studying on the floor in a village, highlighting the need for better educational facilities.
