Karachi’s Mayor, Murtaza Wahab, has expressed concern over ongoing protests that are blocking key roads across the city.
Speaking to the media, Wahab criticized the practice of blocking roads in the name of protest, stating that it does not help achieve the intended goals.
He particularly pointed out the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), urging the provincial government to address the Parachinar issue directly instead of disrupting the peace of Karachi.
“It is not right to block roads for protests. Whatever happens in the country, the protests always end up in Karachi, causing major traffic jams,” Wahab said.
The mayor added that he had discussed the matter of road closures with Sindh Minister Nasir Shah, and both are working towards resolving the issue soon.
At present, sit-ins organized by a religious party are taking place at 12 locations around Karachi.
These include Numaish Chowrangi, Shahrae Faisal, Malir 15, Golimar, Power House Chowrangi, Abul Hassan Isfahani Road, Five Star Chowrangi, and Surjani Town.
Additional protests are ongoing at Ancholi on Shahrae Pakistan, Kamran Chowrangi – Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Township Steel Town More on the National Highway.
The ongoing sit-ins have severely affected the city’s traffic flow, making it difficult for commuters to travel.
For the past three days, Karachi residents have been stuck in traffic, waiting for hours to reach their destinations.
The congestion is due to multiple factors: the MWM’s protest over the Parachinar incident, road blockages by residents protesting power outages, and closures caused by ongoing construction work across the city.
