Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting to review ongoing efforts to control the prices of essential commodities, crack down on profiteering, and address traffic issues caused by Bachat bazaars in district East.
The meeting, attended by Additional Commissioner Ghulam Mehdi Shkah, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and officers from the Bureau of Supply Department, discussed various actions taken across the city.
Assistant Commissioner Rabia Syed presented a report on the measures taken against profiteers and shopkeepers involved in illegal LPG sales, while Assistant Commissioner Sajjad Abro updated the group on efforts to tackle encroachments.
Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar shared progress on resolving complaints related to civic services, including issues with Karachi Electric (KE) and the Water and Sewerage Corporation, which were forwarded for immediate resolution.
The meeting also addressed improvements to the Sabzi Mandi auction system, ensuring that all commodities are included in the auction process.
Assistant commissioners reported actions taken against profiteers in their areas, with a decision made to take strict action against shopkeepers who do not display price lists for food and drink items.
Commissioner Naqvi directed the assistant commissioners to ensure that price lists are displayed and that citizens can access goods at listed prices.
He emphasized the importance of monitoring prices in markets and instructed officials to carry out continuous checks for 2-3 hours if necessary.
The meeting also focused on tackling hoarding and profiteering, with Naqvi instructing deputy commissioners and Bureau of Supply officers to improve the Sabzi Mandi auction system.
A report revealed that from December 8 to 20, assistant commissioners imposed fines totaling Rs 3.68 million, with distribution are as follows: district South Rs 1.3 million; district East Rs 235,000; district West Rs 183,000; district Central Rs 308,000; district Malir Rs 75,000; district Keamari Rs 291,000; district Korangi Rs 138,000.
The meeting addressed traffic disruptions caused by Sunday bazaars in district East, particularly near Alladin Park and Time Square.
Commissioner Naqvi expressed concern about the difficulties faced by citizens and instructed deputy and assistant commissioners to personally monitor efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize disruptions.
