KWSC, Rangers bust water theft network in Karachi

KWSC water theft Karachi

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), in collaboration with Sindh Rangers, successfully dismantled a major water theft network during a raid in Rehri Goth, Landhi, on Sunday.

As per the officials, the operation targeted an illegal water hydrant operating under the guise of a reverse osmosis (RO) plant, stealing water worth billions of rupees, which was then sold to an oil refinery at inflated prices.

The illegal RO plant, spanning two acres, had an underground tank built to tap into a KWSC supply line for water storage.

The stolen water was then transported via bowsers to the refinery. Additionally, the illegal hydrant was reinstalled, from which water was again transported by bowsers to the oil refinery.

As per media reports, the theft had been ongoing for years, last year KWSC Chief Executive Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, with the assistance of the Rangers, had dismantled the illegal hydrants and seized the machinery.

However, the network was reactivated after the RO plant was reestablished at the site.

Meanwhile, the KWSC official revealed that no arrests were made during the operation.
