The Sindh Information Commission issued a notice to Karachi Police for refusing to provide a citizen access to information under the Access to Information Act.
As per media reports, a Karachi resident requested details from the police on September 11, 2024, regarding the number of police vehicles, fuel used, and related expenses.
Under the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act 2016, the police were required to respond within 15 days but failed to do so.
After the deadline passed, the citizen sought an internal review from the Additional IG Karachi on October 30, 2024, but received no response.
The citizen then approached the Sindh Information Commission, which issued a notice to the Karachi Police, instructing the concerned officer to appear before the Commission on December 16, 2024, at 12:00 pm.
The Commission has ordered the police to provide the requested information and to explain the delay in responding within the legally required time frame.
