Lord William Hague of Richmond has been elected as the new Chancellor of Oxford University. The former leader of the UK Conservative Party will assume the prestigious role in early 2025, serving a 10-year term.
Lord Hague becomes the 160th Chancellor in Oxford’s 800-year history, a position regarded as a ceremonial yet influential role in the university’s global standing.
It is worth mentioning here that the former Prime Minister and founder of PTI, Imran Khan, had also expressed interest in the Chancellorship.
However, his name did not appear in the final list of candidates released by the university.
Oxford University recently made headlines when Pakistani student Ahmed Nawaz assumed the presidency of the Oxford Union.
Ahmed, a survivor of the 2014 Army Public School attack in Peshawar, is the second Pakistani to hold the prestigious position after former Prime Minister (PM) Benazir Bhutto.
Ahmed, a Political Science student at Lady Margaret Hall College, has pledged to use the platform to advocate for marginalized communities worldwide.
The APS attack survivor lost his younger brother in the tragedy but has since emerged as a vocal advocate for education and resilience.
