Elephant Madhubala Karachi City

Elephant Madhubala injured herself during transfer to Safari Park

Madhubala, the elephant at the Karachi Zoo, has been relocated to the Safari Park in a carefully monitored yet challenging transfer operation.

The process involved placing Madhubala into a container early in the morning, which was then loaded onto a truck using a crane.

The elephant was transported via the Lyari Expressway, Sohrab Goth, and Abul Hassan Isphani Road, with a heavy deployment of city wardens ensuring safety during the journey.

However, concerns arose after Madhubala reportedly injured herself while inside the container.

Dr. Aamir Khalil, head of the animal welfare group FOUR PAWS, acknowledged the difficulty of getting Madhubala into the container, noting she had to be administered a semi-anesthetic.

Madhubala’s new enclosure at the Safari Park is three times larger than her previous habitat at the Karachi zoo. It includes a swimming pool, a specially designed enclosure, and other facilities aimed at improving her quality of life.

Dr. Khalil expressed optimism about the move but stressed the need to monitor how long Madhubala takes to adapt to her new surroundings and the existing elephants, Malika and Sonia.

Meanwhile, animal rights activist Ayesha Sahar voiced concerns over Madhubala’s condition, stating that the condition of the elephant is weak, her health appears to have worsened and needs immediate care.
