ICC fails to meet deadline of Champions Trophy 2025 schedule announcement

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has failed to meet the deadline to announce the schedule of the Champions Trophy 2025, as deadlock persist between stakeholders.

The schedule of the tournament – which is slated for February 2025 in Pakistan – was planned to be announced during a ceremony in Lahore but was canceled after India failed to provide clarification related to its participation in the event.

It is worth mentioning here that typically, the schedule of the event is unveiled 100 days before the event, however, the announcement faced further delays as the stakeholders stood firm in their decisions.

Following its refusal to attend the event in Pakistan, the BCCI suggest a hybrid model for the high-voltage India-Pakistan matches of the Champions Trophy 2025, with UAE to be selected for the tournament matches.

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has maintained its opposition against the hybrid model, creating a stalemate in finalizing the schedule.

Media reports suggest that an announcement within the next 24 hours is unlikely, although a release within one or two days remains possible if stakeholders show flexibility.

Earlier to this development, PCB sent a letter to the ICC seeking clarification of India’s participation but has yet to receive a response.

While the ICC usually replaces a withdrawing team with the ninth-ranked nation, the council believes that the absence of India from the tournament would significantly impact both its appeal and revenue.

As a result, the situation remains unresolved, with ongoing discussions related to the schedule announcement.
