Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced significant progress in the first phase of the Karachi Safe City project, aimed at improving public safety and security in the city.
In a detailed report from the Director General of the Sindh Safe Cities Authority (SSCA), Asif Aijaz Shaikh, the Chief Minister was briefed on the project rapid progress with many milestone already achieved.
As of now, 157 out of the planned 300 poles for the surveillance system have been installed, with 20 poles are fully powered and operational, furthermore, 100 surveillance cameras actively monitoring key areas from the CPO Control Room and the SSCA Headquarters.
The areas around the Expo Centre are now under enhanced surveillance, marking a significant milestone in the project.
Additionally, five Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) have been deployed and equipped, and the installation of command center equipment is in progress, meanwhile, a dedicated monitoring room has been set up at the SSCA Headquarters to oversee operations.
The Chief Minister highlighted that, following his directions, comprehensive security measures have been implemented for the IDEAS 2024 event.
Surveillance has been activated in strategic locations such as Shahrah-e-Faisal, the Expo Centre area, the airport vicinity, and the Civic Centre, all of which now benefit from advanced surveillance capabilities.
CM Shah praised the project’s progress, stressing the need for timely completion to ensure enhanced security for Karachi’s residents.
Earlier to this, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon announced the development of the Safe City Project stating that a total of 35,000 cameras have been installed across Karachi.
He also shared updates on broader law and order issues in Karachi and rural Sindh, introducing the upcoming Crowd Management Unit to handle various public situations effectively.
