In a bid to address worsening traffic congestion, the Commissioner has imposed a strict ban on double parking and directed the enforcement of rules for charged parking on busy roads in Karachi.
The meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Hassan Naqvi, was attended by DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz, Deputy Commissioners and Local Government Bodies and the PTA Secretary.
During the meeting, the district administration and traffic police were instructed to collaborate on effective solutions, focusing primarily on addressing issues arising from charged and illegal parking across Karachi.
Meanwhile, a ban has been imposed on double parking along the city’s busiest roads, with strict enforcement of rules governing charged parking.
The meeting members decided to cancel the permit of contractors found violating the parking regulations.
According to a briefing during the meeting, Karachi currently hosts 201 charged parking lots, of which 130 are concentrated on major roads, significantly contributing to traffic congestion.
DIG Traffic revealed that traffic flow is being disrupted due to double and triple parking at these sites, along with other violations.
“The most problematic locations are in the southern district, compounded by additional illegal parking spaces,” DIG traffic added.
The meeting also resolved to shut down ticket counters for intercity buses located within the city.
The Commissioner directed the Secretary of the Transport Authority to ensure that passengers are issued tickets only at designated intercity bus terminals.
