KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Officers Association of Pakistan (CAOP) has requested Karachi airport authorities to reconsider recently imposed security restrictions, suggesting instead the use of advanced technology.
Following a deadly attack on a Chinese convoy that killed two Chinese nationals and left several others injured, the airport has strict security asking visitors to bring additional documents and blocking a road leading to the airport.
CAOP Chairman Zarin Gul Durrani acknowledged the need for security but expressed concern that these restrictions may unnecessarily inconvenience passengers and their families.
Durrani recommended focusing on security technologies such as CCTV surveillance, biometric scanners, and AI-based threat detection to enhance safety without adding hassle for visitors at Jinnah International Airport.
He also emphasized the importance of training security personnel to handle threats effectively, which, he believes, would ensure a safer airport environment without excessive restrictions on passengers.
It is worth mentioning here that the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) made it mandatory for the citizens arriving at Karachi airport – either to pick up or drop off the passengers – to carry a copy of the tickets of the passenger and their national identity card.
Meanwhile, the road from Model Colony to Jinnah Terminal has been blocked, while checkpoints have been set up on routes from Pehlwan Goth and Star Gate, adding to the challenges for commuters already dealing with severe traffic congestion.
