Pakistan to oppose India’s bid for Olympics 2036

In a significant move following India’s refusal to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, the government is reflecting on sending a formal letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in opposition to India’s bid to host the Summer Olympics 2036.

Government sources have confirmed that this step is under serious consideration as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic response.

Sources indicate that the Pakistan government is firm on rejecting any hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, reiterating that the event must be hosted entirely in Pakistan.

The government’s position remains that the tournament will go ahead with or without India’s participation, asserting that they have fully prepared for the event with state-of-the-art security measures and infrastructure.

While ICC officials had informed the PCB via a brief email about India’s withdrawal from the tournament, Pakistani authorities remain resolute in their stance.

They also estimate a potential loss of $60 million if India does not participate, given the revenue generated from their involvement in such high-profile events.

However, sources suggest that Pakistan could still face a 30% financial loss even if the nation does participate, but the government is unwilling to back down from the position.

The government’s aggressive posture highlights the broader geopolitical tension, where sports and politics continue to intertwine. Pakistani officials believe that a firm response is necessary to protect the country’s interests and assert its right to host major international sporting events.
