142 vendors pay the price for overcharging consumers

The Karachi administration continues its campaign to combat profiteering, imposing fines of over Rs565,000 on 142 vendors for overcharging customers on Thursday. In addition, two shops were sealed in District Korangi for violating pricing regulations. According to a statement issued by the commissioner’s office, monitoring teams visited various areas of the metropolis on the 15th of Ramazan, imposing fines of Rs169,000 on 21 bakeries, Rs75,000 on 24 poultry shops, over Rs990,000 on 20 grocery stores, Rs9,000 on four meat sellers, Rs30,000 on 15 vegetable sellers, Rs19,000 on 20 fruit sellers, Rs158,000 on 37 milk sellers, and Rs5,000 on a flour seller.

Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon directed all deputy commissioners and magistrates to play a proactive role in making the campaign against profiteering and ensuring the availability of daily use items on fixed rates a success. He urged officers to conduct field visits and take action against shopkeepers found guilty of profiteering to provide relief to citizens. The commissioner also instructed officers to sell confiscated goods on the spot at the official rate in the presence of the shopkeeper.

Iqbal Memon appealed to citizens to register complaints against profiteering by calling the Commissioner Karachi’s control room at telephone numbers 02199203443 and 02199205645. The administration says it is committed to ensuring that vendors do not take advantage of consumers and is taking stringent measures to prevent them from doing so. The campaign against profiteering will continue to ensure that consumers receive essential goods at affordable prices.
