The Sindh High Court came down hard on the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board after residents of Clifton filed a complaint against water shortage in the locality.
Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, during the proceedings, wondered how it was possible that there was no water in the pipelines while tankers enjoyed an adequate supply. “There’s water to drink but not to use?”
“How do tanker mafias get water then? This means KWSB and tanker mafia are stealing water together,” he remarked.
The KWSB official explained that four million gallons of water is supplied to Clifton every day. But the total requirement of the locality is 10.2 million.
“Then why hasn’t a scheme on the water supply been prepared yet?” Justice Azhar demanded.
