K-Electric team assaulted by angry citizens during illegal connection removal in Karachi

An enraged group of residents in Karachi’s Ahsanabad area brutally assaulted a team from K-Electric that had been dispatched to disconnect "illegal connections,” as reported by ARY News.

K-Electric, the primary electricity provider in Karachi, issued a statement revealing that their team tasked with dismantling unauthorized connections faced a violent attack by a group of citizens in the Ahsanabad locality.

The company’s spokesperson shared that in response to the assault, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed with the appropriate police station, documenting the attack against their team.

Following the hostile encounter, reliable sources informed ARY News that the K-Electric personnel fled the area in order to safeguard their safety.

This incident echoes a similar occurrence that transpired on August 24, when a group of perturbed shopkeepers from Karachi’s Timber Market held three K-Electric vehicles and their employees hostage during a tense standoff over electricity disconnection efforts.

According to Sharjeel Goplani, Chairman of the Pakistan Timber Traders Association (PTTA), the K-Electric team arrived at the Timber Market and initiated the process of disconnecting power to several shops. Goplani vehemently opposed the actions of the electrical staff, particularly their attempts to remove electricity meters and jumpers.

In this previous incident, the shopkeepers reportedly confined the K-Electric staff within the premises of a factory, creating a hostage situation as they voiced their resistance to the disconnection efforts.
