Internet connectivity and mobile data availability are returning to the country after three days of interruptions due to the government’s temporary ban on the services. The ban came as a means to “keep the security situation from escalating” after security forces picked up former prime minister Imran Khan from Islamabad High Court.
Earlier in the day, business leader Faizan Rawat appealed to the government to address the issue of the nationwide shutdown of internet and data services. In a video statement, Rawat highlighted the significant financial losses incurred as a result of the service suspension. He emphasized that not only are businesses suffering, but also individuals who rely on online services such as restaurant associates, courier services, and riders.
Rawat further explained that the shutdown has impacted various sectors, including software houses, IT centers, tax centers, data centers, and online banking. The disruption in data services over the past four days has caused considerable inconvenience to the public, and Rawat urged the government to restore internet services promptly.
While acknowledging the need to block individuals engaged in malicious activities, Rawat stressed that the current situation is leading to both economic and social losses. He emphasized the importance of data centers for providing online services, enabling people to work from home, and supporting vulnerable riders who face difficulties due to the service suspension. Rawat concluded by reiterating the urgent need for the restoration of internet services to mitigate the adverse impact on businesses and individuals alike.
