KMC offers public spaces free for cultural, other events

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will provide full support and offer its buildings, parks, and open spaces for educational, literary, and cultural events at no cost.

The mayor stated that the key locations available for hosting such activities include Baradari (Polo Ground), Frere Hall, Khaliq Dina Hall, Denso Hall, the KMC Building City Council Hall, Bagh Ibne Qasim, Kidney Hill Park, and Aziz Bhatti Park, among other KMC-managed sites.

Wahab revealed that KMC would host weekly discussions on the city’s development and cultural heritage, adding that these sessions will feature intellectuals, writers, critics, and experts who will share their insights on Karachi’s future.

“Their input will contribute to strategies aimed at improving and beautifying the city,” the Mayor said.

The mayor stressed the importance of reviving Karachi’s cultural vibrancy by opening up historical KMC buildings and public spaces, many of which have been inaccessible to the general public.

He encouraged the use of these spaces for seminars, conferences, art exhibitions, musical performances, and poetry recitals, providing artists and researchers with opportunities to showcase their work and engage in dialogue about the city’s past, present, and future.

Wahab also highlighted the need to restore Karachi’s legacy as a center for intellectual and cultural activities, expressing regret over the city’s decline as a hub for knowledge and culture.

Those interested in organizing educational and literary events at KMC venues can contact the senior director of media management at the KMC office on the first floor of the KMC Building on MA Jinnah Road.

The mayor assured full cooperation from KMC in supporting these initiatives.
