In 2024, the Special Security Unit (SSU) played a pivotal role in several high-profile events and made significant steps in maintaining law and order in Karachi, as revealed by the SSU performance report.
The performance report disclosed that over 1,200 SSU commandos were deployed across Karachi’s polling stations during the General Elections 2024, handling security at sensitive areas.
The unit also ensured foolproof security during the visit of Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, who visited Karachi in March.
The SSU also provide secure environment during the Pakistan Super League (PSL’s) 9th edition, where 1,000 commandos, alongside other law enforcement agencies, ensured the safety of attendees at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.
Additionally, the SSU SWAT team becoming the first Pakistani team to participate in the international UAE SWAT Challenge 2024.
The SSU Commandos underwent specialized courses, including an 8-week anti-terrorism course at the Naval Special Operations Training Center.
The unit also organized educational and community outreach programs, such as the PHC Job Fair and Education Expo at Karachi’s Expo Center, aiming to encourage youth to join the Pakistan Army, Navy, Anti-Narcotics Force, and other government and private organizations.
The year also witnessed several religious events like Muharram-ul-Haram, Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), where the SSU worked closely with other law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety.
As per the released data, the unit also secured top positions in both team and individual categories in the 2nd Police Extreme Handgun Championship held at Chowkandi Headquarters on 6th September 2024.
Recognizing the sacrifices of the police force, SSU organized a tribute ceremony for martyrs.
In sports, SSU commandos won three gold medals in the Dangal Submission and Grappling Championship, further demonstrating their physical and tactical prowess.
The unit also undertook recruitment for various roles, ensuring a steady pipeline of new personnel.
Throughout the year, SSU hosted several delegations from international organizations, including the New York Police Department and various law enforcement and government officials, further enhancing the unit’s profile.
