NEPRA electricity prices Karachi City National

NEPRA slashes electricity prices across Pakistan, except Karachi

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in electricity prices by Rs 1.28 per unit for consumers across Pakistan, excluding Karachi.

This price cut, which is part of the monthly adjustment for September 2024, will be reflected in consumers’ November bills, according to a recent notification from NEPRA.

However, the residents of Karachi will not benefit from this price reduction.

A day earlier, NEPRA had increased electricity prices by Rs 0.40 paisa per unit for K-Electric consumers in Karachi for the monthly adjustment of August 2024.

Following the KE’s request to increase the price to Rs 0.51 per unit, NEPRA has approved Rs 0.40 per unit hike under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for August 2024, which has led to widespread concerns among residents already grappling with high utility costs.

NEPRA issued an official notification detailing that K-Electric will recover the increased charges from customers in their January 2025 bills.

The increase has drawn criticism, with residents expressing frustration over repeated hikes in electricity tariffs, which add to the financial strain amid rising living costs.
