Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah inaugurates Pakistan’s first café operated by differently-abled staff

In a landmark moment for inclusion and empowerment, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated Khudee, Pakistan’s first café exclusively operated by differently-abled staff, in Karachi on Thursday. The café, launched by the Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC), aims to set a new benchmark for inclusivity in the workforce while empowering individuals with disabilities.

During the inauguration ceremony, CM Murad Ali Shah praised the initiative, calling it a groundbreaking step toward the empowerment of differently-abled individuals. “This café represents more than just a business; it’s a symbol of hope, progress, and the possibilities that emerge when we invest in inclusivity,” he said.

Empowerment Through Vocational Training

The Khudee – Bakery & Café initiative is a result of KVTC’s ongoing efforts to provide vocational training to individuals with disabilities. Over the years, KVTC has been offering programmes aimed at equipping differently-abled people with practical skills necessary for the professional world, especially in fields like culinary arts.

“KVTC has long been a beacon of empowerment for our differently-abled community, and today’s inauguration is a reflection of their tireless efforts,” Shah said. He commended KVTC’s team for their dedication to providing students with the tools they need to not just survive, but thrive in a competitive world.

A Symbol of Inclusion and Progress

Joined by provincial ministers Saeed Ghani and Zulfiqar Shah, the Sindh CM emphasized how initiatives like Khudee are breaking barriers and creating real-world opportunities for the differently-abled community. “These students are not only learning; they are excelling. They are breaking down societal barriers through the right guidance, training, and, most importantly, opportunity,” he added.

Shah highlighted that the café serves as more than just a professional workspace; it’s a platform where differently-abled individuals can refine their skills, enhance their career prospects, and experience personal growth. He expressed hope that Khudee would inspire similar initiatives across the country.

“The café stands as a shining example of what we can achieve when individuals are given the opportunity to grow,” Shah said. “It reminds us that inclusion and empowerment are not just ideals but achievable goals when the right support systems are in place.”

A New Standard for Inclusivity

The launch of Khudee – Bakery & Café is not just a milestone for KVTC but for society at large. It sets a new standard for workplace inclusivity and is expected to inspire more organizations and institutions to provide differently-abled individuals with the opportunity to contribute to the economy in meaningful ways.

Chief Minister Shah called on the public and private sectors to follow KVTC’s lead in creating inclusive spaces for differently-abled people. “This initiative offers our students a real-world professional setting where they can hone their skills, achieve independence, and grow in ways that extend far beyond vocational training,” he said.

A Call for Societal Change

The CM concluded his address with a message of hope and progress. “I am proud to be part of an initiative that uplifts individuals, providing dignity through work and opportunity,” he said. “Khudee is a brilliant example for our society, demonstrating that when we invest in our people, we invest in the future of our nation.”

He urged other organizations to embrace the differently-abled community and provide them with the platforms they need to succeed. “Let’s continue supporting our differently-abled citizens by giving them the opportunities they deserve. Today’s launch should be the first of many milestones for the differently-abled community in Pakistan,” he concluded.

As Khudee – Bakery & Café opens its doors, it stands as a testament to the power of inclusion, resilience, and the human spirit. Through such initiatives, Pakistan moves closer to becoming a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
