The Sindh High Court (SHC) has requested a response from KE and the federal government in a matter involving the General Sales Tax (GST) collection on power bills.
Javed Shams, the president of Anjuman-e-Tajjran Karachi, filed a complaint with the SHC opposing the collection of GST through power bills.
In his argument, Javed Shams claimed that it was unlawful to collect GST from small business owners and sellers through electricity bills. Additionally, the invoice for General Sales Tax was sent to any dealers who used one unit of power during the billing period.
The president of the traders’ body pleaded with the court to consider his case right away because the fixed tax was incorporated into the measure.
Following the first hearing, SHC sent notices to the federal government and KE and asked for their responses.
An earlier appeal against the collection of General Sales Tax on power bills was filed by a Karachi school with the Sindh High Court (SHC).
A private school complained to the SHC against the institution for sending an electrical bill that included GST. The complaint alleged that K-Electric had imposed a GST of Rs. 6,000 on each of the four business electricity metres and that we are not operating a store.
