Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated on Monday that Thar Coal might save Pakistan five to six billion dollars.
Today, the Prime Minister inaugurated a 330-megawatt coal power facility under CPEC Block II in Tharparkar.
PM Shehbaz said during the opening event that Thar coal will provide power for 10 rupees per unit.
“It is a project being done using modern technology,” Shehbaz Sharif explained. “These coal power stations would not pollute the environment,” he said.
“The area has tremendous 175 billion tonnes of coal resources; it is a gem in Thar,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated. “Brilliant power generation projects are being erected here.” Women are operating RO plants here, and people are finding work,” the PM added, praising the initiative in Thar.
“In Pakistan, coal generates 4,000 megawatts of power,” Shehbaz remarked.
“Pakistan is spending $24 billion to cover its electricity needs,” he claimed. “Gas has grown incredibly pricey and out of our price range.” If we don’t use this vast coal reserve, it will be a collective error,” Pakistan’s prime minister remarked.
“We must work together to take action; coal can be delivered through a coordinated railway system,” he stated. “The train project will aid in the transportation of coal around the country.” This idea might save the government $5 to $6 billion every year.”
“I will summon a session of stakeholders over the matter,” Shehbaz said.
Earlier, Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah in a detailed briefing said that generating electricity from Thar Coal required an extensive road network, bridges and an airport.
The Chief Minister said that the Sindh government has built the infrastructure of Thar by spending 750 million dollars.
