Residents move SHC against construction of ‘illegal portions’ in Gulshan-i-Iqbal

The residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Block 13-D, have filed a plea in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the construction of “illegal portions” in the area, citing the adverse impact on the supply of basic utilities and parking space.

According to the petitioners, the construction of these unauthorized structures is causing disruptions in the provision of essential services such as electricity, gas, and water to the legal localities of the area. They further highlighted that the parking space in the vicinity has also been significantly reduced due to these illegal constructions.

The plea names the Sindh Building Control Authority, Deputy Commissioner East, and police authorities as respondents.

During the initial hearing of the case, Usman Farooq Advocate informed the court that the illegal construction was taking place on Baloch Para Plot No. A23, which is not only affecting the availability of utilities but also lacks proper parking facilities. The lawyer added that despite repeated complaints to the relevant authorities, no action had been taken to address the issue.

The petition requests the court to order the demolition of these illegal constructions to provide relief to the affected residents.

Responding to the plea, the SHC approved an emergency hearing and issued notices to the respondents, summoning them to appear before the court on August 18. The residents hope that the court’s intervention will address the issue and restore the supply of utilities and parking space in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
