Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Peshawar Zalmi has pledged Rs50 million to honor Pakistani Air Force pilots for their heroic response to recent Indian missile and drone strikes.
The announcement came Sunday during Pakistan’s “Day of Gratitude,” observed on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s call after Pakistan shot down five Indian fighter jets during cross-border hostilities earlier this week. Indian officials admitted losing at least three aircraft in the clash.
Javed Afridi, chairman of Peshawar Zalmi, praised the air force’s swift action and precision, saying their bravery saved lives and infrastructure. “This contribution is a symbol of respect and solidarity with the heroes who protect our skies,” Afridi said.
He emphasized that defending national security is a duty shared by all Pakistanis, not just the armed forces. “Their courage and sacrifice are the heartbeat of our pride,” he added.
The pledge follows the deadliest confrontation between India and Pakistan since the 1999 Kargil War. At least 60 people have died, and thousands were displaced during the four-day conflict.
A U.S.-brokered ceasefire, calming tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The situation remains fragile, and international diplomats continue to push for long-term peace.
Due to the escalation, both countries postponed domestic T20 cricket leagues. Pakistan’s PSL and India’s IPL authorities are now working to reschedule matches, ensuring safety for players and fans.
